Going to the Sun road

We were very excited to be spending a week with Kathy and Bob at Glacier National Park.  Great company in a beautiful place!

It was pretty much mandatory that we spent the first day driving through the heart of the park on Going to the Sun road.

We started at Lake McDonald, admiring the clear water and pretty pebbles and mountains in the background:

Antlers galore in McDonald Lodge:

Red buses ready for touring:

Glimpses of waterfalls on the river flowing into the lake:

Everywhere we looked while driving up the road - beautiful peaks with snow patches, green trees, blue skies.  Also a shot of The Beast, our nickname for the red truck that Kathy and Bob rented for the occasion:

John scoping out the scenery:

Waterfalls at every turn:

Bob's motto - "No road, no problem," although we didn't find as many off-road options this time as he might have liked.  In particular, this is one road we definitely needed to stay all the way on.

More gawking:

Some of the challenging pieces of road construction that had to occur for this road to exist:

Really can't get enough of this:

A glimpse of one of the larger glaciers in the park, Jackson Glacier:

Pretty Saint Mary Lake, site of our next day's adventure:

The AirBnB cabin where Kathy and Bob stayed for a few days - we love it!

Yay for Glacier!
