One of my favorite pictures of the summer - finding one of our favorite Star Trek actors on the wall at a café in the middle of Nevada. Hello Garrett!
To get to that spot, we drove from Truckee across the Nevada desert. Wildfire smoke tracked us as we turned onto the ET Highway, spooky!
Be on the lookout for dancing bulls named Ferdinand!
We drove out of the smoke and into another world. Welcome to the Little A'Le'Inn!
Beam Me Up Scotty
A poster from one of our favorite movies, fitting for the theme of this place:
A time capsule from the movie Independence Day, which filmed in the desert near here:
It's a unique and fun spot, so glad it was on our way!
And here's what we were aiming for - Cathedral Gorge state park. I must have seen a picture of the formations here once and added a star to my Google Map. We were excited to get a spot in the camping area of the park so we could stay a couple days and do some trail runs.
I took way too many photos and probably included too many here...
Having a good time wandering around and admiring the shapes and colors:
Maybe John is suggesting that we haven't reached enough summits this year:
Different lighting in the morning:
Sunshine and rain clouds:
Someone had fun with this, plus the rock "island" in the distance:
It makes sense that we're not far from Utah:
You can follow little tiny canyons into the middle of the clay formations (with volcanic origins, no wonder we like it):
Secret little alcoves:
Looking up at the ceiling:
CCC-constructed water tower - thank you CCC!
An interesting trail up to Miller Point:
Caps and spires:
Some of John's perspectives, including his version of the sky shape:
The most "cathedral" of our pictures:
Another excellent state park!
