Last fall I had the chance to visit my friend Taylor in Flagstaff, and we went looking for a long hike with epic scenery. Luckily, the Grand Canyon is a short drive north from Flag, plus her friends Ben and Lauren wanted to join us. Since we took a bunch of pictures, this is a post to document our entertaining day together.
I'm not sure I was awake yet, but Taylor was!
Walking to the top of the rim to drop down South Kaibab trail:
And the scenery begins!
Starting down the switchbacks:
A nice photo from Lauren - thanks Lauren!
Happy to be back in this beautiful place:
An excellent group shot, courtesy of a random stranger, and we all behaved ourselves for once:
It was a wonderful day for a walk:
Always love the views in all directions:
Maybe I'm taking a couple too many pictures...
Walking around a mule train:
Taylor's interesting photo of the mules:
And this shot came out particularly nice:
We had considered descending to the river, but Bright Angel Trail was closed below Havasupai Gardens for construction. So we traversed on the Tonto Trail, something new for most of the group.
And we were rewarded with a Bighorn Sheep sighting!
He practically posed for pictures:
That's quite the expansive dining room this guy's got:
Taylor taking a group selfie...
I believe this is the one:
That's a much bigger road than I've seen in that spot before, must be a construction thing:
More signs of work at Havasupai Gardens:
Our selfie antics continue (this time including a banana peal):
Excellent company and conversations on the climb up Bright Angel:
Light and shadow:
From our leaning heads it looks like there's a wind blowing up and to the left:
If we only had a wheelbarrow, that would be something...
Kissing rocks I haven't noticed before:
Even more amazing is that I've never noticed these pictographs near the South Rim - I believe it was Lauren who pointed them out:
Thank you friends for a super fun day!
