Last March was busy, I just didn't take as many pictures. So I can fit everything into one post. Maybe I should use that as a strategy for catching up... that's more difficult to do in the summer though.
Artwork on a hillside near Sentinel Hill and Tumamoc:
At the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) in Phoenix (after ~3 visits we still have more to see), admiring a beautiful harpsichord. I believe Glenn Gould is playing the piano in the video:
We've made it to the European section of the museum:
Southwest Spring Week is one of our favorite times of the year. Almost every day for 9 days we get to run an orienteering course in Tucson or Phoenix, plus we enjoy collecting controls afterward. Fun and full days!
The next 3 photos are courtesy of Evalin Brautigam.
Go John go!
Let's see, where to head next?
We were lucky to have the chance to run around the Amerind Museum grounds for the first time - thank you to everyone who made this happen, it was super fun!
The social activity of the week was an excellent tour at Kitt Peak, including a look at one of the big telescopes:
It's quite the view from up there!
I happened to be the meet director on March 14, so of course we celebrated Pi Day:
Yummy slices for everyone!
We love being part of the orienteering clubs in Arizona
Desert scenery for one of the Phoenix events on the second weekend of SWSW:
Cushing Bridge has an installation where shadows line up with images in the pavement on certain days of the year. I managed to catch one related to the development of railroads in the area:
New mural in town! Tallest mural in the state! And it matches my hat! I can't recall if I wore a green shirt that day on purpose:
John and I hiked up to Tanque Verde Peak, finally making the trek up the trail we've been looking at from various directions. Not sure why I framed an ocotillo in front of John in this photo, but it looks pretty cool:
I'd been here from the other direction during my TEST runs, but had opted not to clamber up the boulder on top. Obviously with some help from my favorite mountain goat I was going to get up there this time:
It was nice having time to appreciate the fun rock towers along the ridge:
In the spirit of "training for Hardrock" I decided to climb a couple more mountains in a couple days, starting with Mica:
Every once in a while a bug net comes in handy - it's rare around here, but annoying flies are not unheard of:
Tiny trickle of water up high, pretty much the last opportunity to refill bottles before this creek dried up for the year:
Enjoying the pine trees and cool air on top of Mica, yay!
During his visit in February, our friend Andrew was inspired to climb Mount Lemmon, so he made time to return for a big day hike into the Pusch Ridge Wilderness with us:
We made it to the top, woo hoo!
Funky formation we noticed during a break on the descent - it's almost a "duck!"
We were all a bit beat by the end, and John might be ready for a nap - happy to be done!
